Silk Magic dyes have the unique advantage of being both self fixing and controllable in their application. Painting with Silk Magic eliminates the whole fixation process, allowing greater development of brush stroke and painting techniques! Silk Magic is made from a special formula that enables you to apply the dye without it spreading. This feature alone makes dynamic bold brushwork a possibility an opens up a whole new range of avenues to explore. Direct application to the silk will result in brilliant and permanently bonded colours that can be used with or without gutta. Silk Magic dyes come in a concentrated liquid form and may be diluted before use. These new dyes can also be used to their full advantage in diluted form, by layering washes of colour you can create exciting 3D effects. Dilution will prevent the colour transferring from one part of the fabric to another during rinsing, this is known as contact printing. When diluting colours always test on scrap of silk before applying to your final work. If you wish to use very strong colours and avoid contact printing, rinse without folding under cold running water. Dilution: 1. Dilute with water up to maximum of 20% 2. For greater dilution use clear base 3. For pale colours add few drops of colour to clear base To help control the flow and bonding properties of Silk Magic pre-wet the silk with a special catalyst solution before applying colours. To make catalyst solution, add 2 capfuls of catalyst to one litre (2 pints) of water. How to use; 1. Silk Magic dye will not run, silk can be painted either by stretching on a frame or simply placing it on top of plastic sheet, laminate or any other non absorbent surface. 2. After painting is completed, allow silk to dry, or to accelerate drying use a hair dryer. 3. Rinse, first under cold running water, then in warm soapy water. 4. Roll silk in a towel, wring to remove excess water. Place flat to dry or iron immediately (on silk setting) without waiting for silk to dry. Do not confuse Silk Magic with acrylic based silk paints. SILK MAGIC ARE SILK DYES Silk Magic dyes do not alter silks natural properties & soft handle. Silk remains soft and supple. To thicken Silk Magic use dye thickener such as DR33 or Manutex supplied by Batik Oetoro. Silk Magic is non toxic and has excellent light and wash fastness and a very long shelf life. Store in cool place away from sunlight. Always wear protective clothing to prevent staining. Clean up with water.
